ITEM 2 A motion was made by John Haas, seconded by Eric Emmerich, to approve the minutes of the July 10, 2017 meeting. All Ayes

ITEM 3 Pat Patte presented the monthly treasurer’s report. As of July 31, 2017 the total fund balance was at $278,690.55. This includes a total checking account total of $199,216.35; a money market account total of $66,752.68; and, a Certificate of Deposit of $12,721.52. Following the presentation of the report a motion was made by Eric Emmerich, seconded by Mary Ruth Tanner, to approve the report as presented. All Ayes

ITEM 4 Former District II Secretary, Frank Victor, then entertained a motion for the election of District II Officers for the 2017-2018 school year. A motion was made by Eric Emmerich, seconded by John Haas, to maintain the current slate of officers as follows:

ITEM 5 A motion was made by Ben Tolerico, seconded by Pat Patte, to appoint Brian Durkin, Athletic Director of Forest City, as the Lackawanna League Athletic Director Representative, to the District II Committee, effective immediately. All Ayes

ITEM 6 A motion was made by Pat Patte, seconded by Bill Schoen, to appoint Tim Hopkins, Dunmore High School Principal, to the District II Committee, effective immediately. All Ayes

ITEM 7 A motion was made by Pat Patte, seconded by John Coyle, to appoint current District II Committee Member, Board Representative Mary Ruth Tanner, as the Girls’ Athletics Representative, effective immediately. All Ayes

ITEM 8 SPORTS REPORTS:

·         Baseball: Frank Majikes reported that PNC Field is not available on Memorial Day for the 2018 District II Baseball Championships. The International League has a new rule which does not permit teams to request specific scheduling needs and the Railriders have a scheduled home game on Memorial Day next season.

·         Competitive Spirit: Chris Gegaris announced that the 2017 District II Competitive Cheer Championships will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at a site and time to be announced. This is approximately two weeks later than previous championships. A motion was made by Chad Vinansky, seconded by Mary Ruth Tanner, to approve the report as presented. All Ayes

·         Field Hockey: Chris Gegaris reminded the committee that the 2017 AAA play-in game between the District VI Champion and District II Champion will be held at a District II site in 2017. Fred Barletta asked if there is the potential to hold all championship games in 2017 on a turf field rather than on grass. As this is the second year of the two year cycle, all championship games in Field Hockey e have been scheduled at the home field of the higher seed, no changes for 2017 will be made. A motion was made by Eric Emmerich, seconded by Joe Farrell, to approve the report as presented. All Ayes

·         Football: Mike Ognosky presented for review the format for the 2017 Football Championships in the 6 classifications. It will follow the same format as the 2016 championships and will be distributed to member schools upon approval by the committee. He reminded the committee that the 5A District II/XI Championship game will be played at a District XI site this year. Also, the District I/II play in game will be played at a District I site. Following discussion, a motion was made by Pat Patte, seconded by John Coyle, to approve the format for distribution to the member schools. All Ayes

·         Girls’ Tennis: John Coyle presented for review the format for the 2017 Girls Tennis Championships. Following discussion, a motion was made by Ben Tolerico, seconded by Dave Novrocki, to approve the format for distribution to the member schools. All Ayes

·         Golf: Joe Farrell presented for review the format for the 2017 Golf Championships. Following discussion, a motion was made by Dave Novrocki, seconded by Chad Vinansky, to approve the format for distribution to the member schools. All Ayes

·         Awards: Bill Schoen has been in communication with Honor Awards and all is set for the medal counts for the 2017 District II Fall Championships.

·         Public Relations: Bill Schoen thanked both Arcaro & Genell’s Restaurant, Patte’s Restaurant, and Honor Awards for their sponsorship of District II Officials and the District II Hospitality Room at the 2017 PIAA Annual State Officials’ Convention.

·         Sportsmanship: As we move into the 2017-2018 sports season, Chad Vinansky reported that he will be sending an email out to all District II Principals and Athletic Directors reminding them of their responsibility to file “timely” reports following the ejection of players and coaches from sports contests. The PIAA requires all member schools to file such reports following notification from the PIAA regarding an ejection of a participant from a sports contest. This is required of ALL PIAA SPORTS EVENTS.

ITEM 10 A motion was made by John Coyle, seconded by Eric Emmerich, to

approve the eligibility of Martina Paredes (pending receipt of a copy of Visa), Argentina to Lake-Lehman, in accordance with Article VII, Foreign Exchange Students, of the PIAA By-Laws. All Ayes

ITEM 11 Chairman Majikes reviewed the highlights of the most recent PIAA Board of Directors Meeting held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017. Minutes of that meeting can be found on the District II webpage.

ITEM 12 Chairman Majikes presented a request from Wyoming Area regarding a clerical area they discovered in the submission of their 2016-2017 eligibility lists to the PIAA State Office. Following discussion, a motion was made by Bill Schoen, seconded by Fred Barletta, to approve Wyoming Area’s request to rectify the clerical error as submitted. All Ayes

ITEM 13 Chairman Majikes provided to each committee member a copy of the following items – the 2017-18 District II Athletic Director’s Directory; the 2017-2018 PIAA Constitution and By-Laws; the 2017-2018 District II Committee Members’ Directory; and, the 2017-18 PIAA Calendar of Championship Events.

ITEM 14 Chairman Majikes led a discussion regarding the potential of District II working with the Mohegan Sun Arena in the submission of an application on behalf of the Arena for a Scranton Chamber of Commerce SAGE Award. The Award is presented annually for businesses that interact with the community. A motion was made by Eric Emmerich, seconded by Mary Ruth Tanner, to have Chairman Majikes work with Arena officials regarding this application submission. All Ayes

ITEM 15 Bill Schoen provided the committee members with an overview of the PIAA State Officials’ Convention held recently in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He thanked the many District II registered sports’ officials who attended the convention with a special thanks to those that served as presenters in their various areas of expertise. He also offered his thanks to Arcaro & Genell’s, Patte’s, and Honor Awards for their contributions in making the Hospitality Room hosted by District II and District XI such a great success. Congratulations to all of the 30 year officials who received recognition at the Annual Convention Banquet. Honored officials from District II included Mike Cerra, Russ Daubert, Mark Fallon, Bob Gentilezza, and Carmen Saporito.

ITEM 16 Chairman Majikes explained that he has been working with Gregory the Great Academy in Elmhurst in regard to the scheduling of the required Soccer games in order to qualify for competition in the District II Soccer Championships. Gregory the Great Academy is a District II/PIAA member school that must schedule and play in at least half of the required 18 contests in soccer in order to be eligible for District competition.

ITEM 17 Chairman Majikes distributed an updated District II Committee member information list and asked committee members to review the information for its accuracy and report any changes for submission.

ITEM 18 The Committee members present discussed the meeting dates for 2017-2018 regular monthly meetings. The September date will be on Wednesday, September 20th and the succeeding monthly meetings will be tentatively scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of each month.

ITEM 19 A discussion was held regarding the submission of all of the reports from the incident at the Pittston Area/Wyoming Valley West Wyoming Valley Conference Baseball game in May. Following discussion, a motion was made by Chris Gegaris, seconded by Chad Vinansky, that a hearing before the District II Committee of all parties involved be arranged by Chairman Majikes. Chairman Majikes will discuss a suitable date for all parties and inform the committee.

ITEM 20 At the request of the committee, Chairman Majikes will complete a report listing all of the sports’ chairpersons and officials’ assignors in each District II sponsored Championship.

ITEM 21 The Committee reviewed a request regarding the potential to work in a cooperative relationship with the Bocchichio Institute in furthering coaches’ education initiatives. The committee had previously been in such a relationship and, with the increased role of the PIAA in their own sponsorship of coaching education initiatives, had withdrawn from that working relationship. Following discussion, a motion was made by Fred Barletta, seconded by Chris Gegaris, that the committee continue to work with the PIAA initiatives and decline the opportunity extended by the Bocchichio Institute. All Ayes

ITEM 22 A motion was made by Pat Patte, seconded by Chad Vinansky, to adjourn the meeting.
