Meeting was convened at 4:30 p.m. by Chairman Majikes

ITEM 1           Chairman Majikes called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.  Chairman Majikes then welcomed Pat Patte, Principal of GAR High School, to his first District II Committee meeting as a member of the District II Committee.

ITEM 2           Absent but accounted for:  Jim Marcks, Don Kanavy, Bill King, Gerald Grimaud, Danielle Adams and Vito Quaglia

                        A motion was made by Tom Jenkins, seconded by Jim Higgins, to approve the minutes of the April 21, 2010 Meeting.  All Ayes

ITEM 3District II Treasurer, Frank Victor, presented the Treasurer’s Report.  He reported that there is a current balance of $113,628.16, a reduction of $20,831.08 from the starting balance as of July 1, 2009.  Currently, the District has a total of $42,473.71 in savings and checking accounts and $71,154.45 in certificates of deposit. 

                        A motion was made by Bill Schoen, seconded by Jay Starnes, to approve the Treasurer’s report as presented.  All Ayes

ITEM 4           Chairman Majikes conducted a review of the recently conducted Annual Banquet/Business Meeting.  All committee members presented commented on the site for the occasion, Bentley’s Restaurant, very favorably.

ITEM 5           Chairman Majikes presented an informational report to the committee

regarding two recently forfeited contests by Blue Ridge.  The first was a

baseball game played on May 1, 2010 versus Western Wayne High School in which Blue Ridge utilized an ineligible pitcher in the 7th inning of that game in violation of the PIAA pitching rule.  Included in the report was a letter from the Blue Ridge High School Principal, R. Scott Jeffrey, to Chairman Majikes admitting to the violation and providing corrective action to prevent another incident of this type. 

The second of the forfeited contests was a Junior High Softball game versus Elk Lake played on April 10, 2010 in which Blue Ridge utilized an ineligible pitcher in violation of the PIAA regulations governing Junior Varsity and Junior High participation.  Again, included in the report was a letter from the Blue Ridge Middle School Principal, Matthew J. Nebzydoski, to Chairman Majikes admitting to the violation and providing corrective action to prevent another incident of this type.

District II Secretary Mike Ognosky was asked to send a letter to Blue Ridge explaining that any other violations of this type will result in an appearance before the District II Committee and possible sanctions against the programs in question.

ITEM 6           Chairman Majikes and Wrestling Chairman Jay Starnes informed the District II Committee that due to circumstances there will be recommended changes to the current District II Wrestling Steering Committee in the near future.

ITEM 7           Chairman Majikes informed the District II Committee that discussions are continuing with FOX 56 regarding the potential for the televising of District II Championship events in 2010-2011.

ITEM 7           Chairman Majikes reviewed the schedule of the Spring State Sports’ Workshops to be held at the PIAA Offices on Thursday-Friday, June 24-25.

ITEM 8Chairman Majikes updated the District II Committee regarding the required appearance of Philadelphia Charter School Math and Sciences regarding an incident in the PIAA State Boys’ Basketball Playoffs.

ITEM 9           Chairman Majikes presented to the Committee a report from the administration of the Tunkhannock Area School District regarding the revision of their current security protocol for the upcoming 2010-2011 football season.  The committee reviewed the material presented and directed the Chairperson to contact Tunkhannock officials in order to clarify the halftime procedures as presented.  Chairman Majikes will report back to the committee at the next meeting.

ITEM 10         Chairman Majikes presented the following material to the District II Committee that was received from the administration of the Dallas Area School District:

§         A letter of apology addressed to Mr. Greg Ellsworth, Principal of Tunkhannock Area High School, regarding the incident at the September, 2009 football game played at Tunkhannock.

§         A copy of the check for the clean up of the Tunkhannock Tennis Courts as paid by Dallas as well as a copy of the invoice from Disaster Blaster cleaning services.

§         Notification that Mr. Ted Jackson, Head Football Coach, has enrolled in the National Federation Course on Sportsmanship.

ITEM 11         Chairman Majikes presented to the District II Committee materials received from the PIAA State Office acting upon a request by the Dallas School District for permission to allow Mr. Ted Jackson to organize and conduct a summer instructional camp for children ages 6-12.  Chairman Majikes also presented the affirmative response from Mr. Brad Cashman allowing that participation given certain parameters that must be followed by Coach Jackson to ensure he would not be in violation of his current probation.  Finally, Chairman Majikes presented a communication from the Solicitor of the Tunkhannock School District disagreeing with that decision.

ITEM 12         Chairman Majikes presented the District II Committee with a communication from a parent from the Mid Valley School District regarding an incident at the District II Junior High Track Championships.  Mr. Majikes has referred the communication to both the District II Track Committee and the District II Male Officials’ Representative, Bill Schoen.

ITEM 13         Mike Ognosky informed the District II Committee that we have received donations amounting to $1,750 for the purpose of adding a link to the District II webpage for the “Positive Coaching Alliance”.  The District II Committee agreed to place the site in operation as of July 1, 2010.  The site will be available by link to any person accessing www.piaad2.org.   

ITEM 14         A motion was made by Pat Patte, seconded by Mike Costanza, to adjourn the meeting.  All Ayes
