Meeting was convened at 4:20 p.m. by Chairman Majikes
ITEM 1 Chairman Majikes called the meeting to order at 4:20 p.m.
Absent but accounted for: Jim Marcks, Tom Jenkins, Phil Cappellini and Don Kanavy
Advisors Present: Phil Latinski, District II Solicitor Don Rogers
ITEM 2 Chairman Majikes welcomed the two newest members to the District II Committee to their first meeting, Berwick Senior High School Principal Rich Walton and Wilkes-Barre GAR Junior-Senior High School Principal Dino Galella.
ITEM 3 A motion was made by Ray Lowery, seconded by Frank Galicki, to approve the minutes of the October 18, 2006 meeting. All Ayes
ITEM 4 Frank Victor, District II Treasurer, indicated that he is currently in the process of receiving and accounting for all of the various game reports for the Fall Championships and will submit a complete and updated report of all accounts at the next meeting.
ITEM 5 Chairman Majikes reported on a number of items from the State Office including:
ü Governor Rendell’s initiative to improve sportsmanship. Montrose and Delaware Valley are District II schools that have been selected to take part in the initiative. Scranton is also a third district being considered as well.
ü A letter received from the state office regarding the classification of private schools.
ü Articles from Philadelphia newspapers discussing the possibility of the Philadelphia Catholic schools entering the PIAA. Philadelphia Catholic schools would not be eligible for entry into the PIAA until the next two year cycle beginning in 2008-2009.
ITEM 6 Chairman Majikes provided committee members with an update on the recent District II news conference announcing the distribution of Drug and Alcohol materials to all member schools provided by Carmen Ambrosio. Chairman Majikes thanked all member schools that attended.
AT 4:40 PM THE DISTRICT II COMMITTEE ADJOURNED TO A CLOSED SESSION TO CONDUCT AN ELIGIBILITY HEARING ON A STUDENT-ATHLETE FROM WEST SIDE AREA TECHNICAL SCHOOL, CHRISTOPHER DERMODY.

ITEM 7 A motion was made by Mike Ognosky, seconded by Tony Rusnak, to deny the eligibility request for Christopher Dermody, in accordance with Article VIII of the PIAA By-Laws, Period of Participation. All Ayes (Frank Galicki, Ray Lowery, Ton Finan and Bill King abstained)
ITEM 8 Chairman Majikes reviewed a letter received from Tom Williams detailing his work with Bill Hilburt over the past six years on the District II Wrestling Championships. With Bill retiring after this year, Tom has offered his services as the meet director for the championships to work hand in hand with the District Wrestling Co-Chairs, Jim Marcksand Rich Walton. Following a brief discussion, a motion was made by Ross Scarantino, seconded by Frank Galicki, to approve TomWilliams in the role as Meet Director for the District II Wrestling Championships. ITEM 9 SPORTS REPORTS
a.) Cross Country (Bill King): Bill reported on the recently held championships and reported that everything went quite well. The intention was to have two chips per runner, but a race day snafu resulted in a single chip per runner for this year. Bill also reported he will be in attendance at the PIAA Cross Country steering committee meeting on December 20th.
b.) Field Hockey (Tom Finan): Tom reported that Wyoming Seminary is still active and preparing for the PIAA AA State Championship game on Saturday. There was also a discussion regarding better communication with Soccer officials regarding the availability of the Lake-Lehman facility for first round of state action.
c.) Football (Tom Jenkins): In Tom’s absence, Chairman Majikes updated the committee on this week’s activity surrounding the Abington Heights home game situation. Frank shared with the committee newspaper articles from the Scranton Times as well as communications between Abington Heights administration and Tom.
d.) Golf (Tony Rusnak): Tony discussed communication received from Montrose regarding a proposed change in the District Team Championship and the addition of more teams in the event. The Committee will take the request under consideration.
e.) Soccer (Ray Lowery): Ray offered a report on the very successful district soccer tournament and praised Mt. View on their efforts in reaching the PIAA Semifinal.
f.) Volleyball (Maureen Williams): Maureen presented the financial report for the Volleyball tournament and thanked Delores Dalickas, Jim Higgins, Denise Reddon, Charlie Turco, Sandy MacKay and Joe Papi for their assistance as site managers.
g.) Wrestling (Jim Marcks): Chairman Majikes announced the addition of Rich Walton as a Co-Chair in Wrestling.
h.) Softball (Dino Galella): Chairman Majikes announced the appointment of Dino Galella as the Softball Chairperson.
i.) Finally, Basketball, Swimming and Wrestling will all be holding meetings to establish procedures for the District Championships to be held during the winter sports’ season.
ITEM 10 A motion was made by Tony Rusnak, seconded by Ross Scarantino, to approve the eligibility of Christina Flaherty, Bishop Hoban to Hanover Area, in accordance with Article VI, Transfers, Residence, and Recruiting, Section 2, of the PIAA By-Laws. All Ayes
ITEM 11 OTHER BUSINESS:
a.) Jim Higgins updated the committee on the recent developments regarding the Catholic schools in District II. Public announcements have been held by the Dioceses of Scranton stating that Bishop Hafey, Bishop Hoban, Bishop O’Reilly and Seton Catholic will be combined forming one Catholic High School for the 2007-2008 school year. Also, Bishop Hannan and Bishop O’Hara will be combined in Lackawanna County forming one Catholic High School for the 2007-2008 year.
ITEM 12 A motion was made by Danielle DiPietro, seconded by Joe Lalli, to adjourn the meeting. All Ayes
