Meeting was convened at 4:15 p.m. by Chairman Frank Majikes

ITEM 1 Chairman Majikes called the meeting to order at 4:15 p.m.

Absent but accounted for: John Coyle, Brian Durkin, Joseph Farrell, John Haas, Bill King, Mary Ruth Tanner, Ben Tolerico, and Chad Vinansky

ITEM 2 A motion was made by Ron Collins, seconded by Maureen Williams, to approve the minutes of the September 20, 2017 meeting. All Ayes

ITEM 3 Pat Patte reviewed the Payment Rate structure for the assigned workers for 2017-2018 District II sponsored championship events for all sports. That list includes the officials, game and assistant game managers, site managers, and all other workers associated with the event. The rate sheet will be made available to game managers by contacting the District II Secretary prior to the contest. Pat then reviewed the current status of the District II Treasury. As of today’s meeting we have a total fund balance of $265,819.77. That includes a checking account total of $186,323.65; a money market account of $66,767.18; and, a Certificate of Deposit of $12,728.94. Following the presentation, a motion was made by Jay Starnes, seconded by Fred Barletta, to approve the report as presented. All Ayes

ITEM 4 Sports Reports:

·         Baseball (Frank Majikes): Frank Majikes informed the committee that the Baseball Steering Committee is continuing to work with PNC Stadium officials in scheduling the 2018 District II Baseball Championships. As explained at earlier meetings, the Rail Riders are scheduled to play at home on Memorial Day this year.

·         Tennis (John Coyle): John Coyle reviewed the recently completed championships and informed the committee that AA Team Champion Scranton Prep and AAA Team Champion Hazleton Area will be involved in the upcoming PIAA State Team Tennis Championships.

·         Volleyball (Maureen Williams): Maureen Williams reviewed the seeding procedures for the district championships. All league competition concludes on Thursday, October 26th with the District Championships scheduled to begin on Saturday, October 28th.

·         Field Hockey (Chris Gegaris): Chris Gegaris reviewed the plans for the upcoming District II Field Hockey Championships.

·         Soccer (Brian Durkin): Chairman Majikes informed the committee that all is set for the upcoming District II Soccer Championships. The brackets will be released to the schools following the seeding meeting on Saturday, October 21st.

·         Football (Mike Ognosky): The current standings are located on the web page and are up to date through Week #8. The District II Football Committee will be meeting on Sunday, October 29th to review the final brackets for the tournaments. That information will then be disseminated to those schools who will be participating. All member schools have indicated their desire to participate in this year’s playoffs – there were no opt outs received.

ITEM 5 The District II Committee acted upon the following eligibility requests presented at this evening’s meeting:

·         A motion was made by Chris Gegaris, seconded by Fred Barletta, to approve the eligibility of Saufyane Ayuby, in accordance with Article VI, Section 4, of the PIAA By-Laws, principal-to-principal sign off, effective immediately. All Ayes

·         A motion was made by Pat Patte, seconded by Dave Novrocki, to approve the eligibility of Kelcie Bensinger, Holy Cross to Mid Valley, in accordance with Article VI, Section 4, of the PIAA By-Laws, principal-to-principal sign off, effective immediately. All Ayes

·         A motion was made by Bill Schoen, seconded by Eric Emmerich, to approve the eligibility of Jeff Carter, Weatherly to Meyers, in accordance with Article VI, Section 4, of the PIAA By-Laws, principal-to-principal sign off, effective immediately. All Ayes

·         A motion was made by Jay Starnes, seconded by Tim Hopkins, to approve the eligibility of Kim Carter, Weatherly to Meyers, in accordance with Article VI, Section 4, of the PIAA By-Laws, principal-to-principal sign off, effective immediately. All Ayes

·         A motion was made by Ron Collins, seconded by Eric Emmerich, to approve the eligibility of Courtney Iskra, Holy Redeemer to Wyoming Area, in accordance with Article VI, Section 4, of the PIAA By-Laws, principal-to-principal sign off, effective immediately. All Ayes

·         A motion was made by Bill Schoen, seconded by Jay Starnes, to approve the eligibility of Dalton Karl, Central Bucks West to Wyoming Seminary, in accordance with Article VI, Section 4, of the PIAA By-Laws, principal-to-principal sign off, effective immediately. All Ayes

·         A motion was made by Ron Collins, seconded by Tim Hopkins, to approve the eligibility of Keturah LeGette, Neshaminy to Hazleton Area, in accordance with Article VI, Section 4, of the PIAA By-Laws, principal-to-principal sign off, effective immediately. All Ayes

·         A motion was made by Eric Emmerich, seconded by Bill Schoen, to approve the eligibility of Fidel Mince, GAR to Berwick, in accordance with Article VI, Section 4, of the PIAA By-Laws, principal-to-principal sign off, effective immediately. All Ayes

·         A motion was made by Maureen Williams, seconded by Fred Barletta, to approve the eligibility of Marc Perrone, Wallenpaupack to Mid Valley, in accordance with Article VI, Section 4, of the PIAA By-Laws, principal-to-principal sign off, effective immediately. All Ayes

·         A motion was made by Dave Novrocki, seconded by Pat Patte, to approve the eligibility of Brian Wizdor, Valley View to Lakeland, in accordance with Article VI, Section 4, of the PIAA By-Laws, principal-to-principal sign off, effective immediately. All Ayes

ITEM 6 The District II Committee acted upon the following eligibility requests regarding Foreign Exchange students:

·         A motion was made by Jay Starnes, seconded by Tim Hopkins, to approve the immediate eligibility of Giulia Rodrigues Re, Brazil to Wyoming Area, in accordance with Article VII, Foreign Exchange Students, of the PIAA By-Laws. All Ayes

·         A motion was made by Eric Emmerich, seconded by Bill Schoen, to approve the immediate eligibility of Alvaro Farnos Muniz, Spain to Meyers, in accordance with Article VII, Foreign Exchange Students, of the PIAA By-Laws. All Ayes

·         A motion was made by Maureen Williams, seconded by Chris Gegaris, to approve the immediate eligibility of Caroline Skade, Denmark to Lackawanna Trail, in accordance with Article VII, Foreign Exchange Students, of the PIAA By-Laws. All Ayes

ITEM 7 Chairman Majikes notified the Committee that Faith Christian Academy has withdrawn its membership as a PIAA member school.

ITEM 8 Chairman Majikes provided the committee with a number of updates as a result of actions taken at the latest PIAA State Board of Directors meeting. A complete summary of the PIAA Board of Directors’ Actions from the meeting of Wednesday, October 5, 2017 can be found on the District II webpage at www.piaad2.org.

ITEM 9 Chairman Majikes notified the committee that GAR and Coughlin have agreed to withdraw from their current cooperative sponsorship agreement in the sport of Field Hockey.

ITEM 10 A discussion was held regarding the current hourly fee for athletic trainers at our championship events. Following discussion, a motion was made by Maureen Williams, seconded by Tim Hopkin, to approve an hourly rate of $25/hour for athletic trainer’s services. All Ayes

ITEM 11 Chairman Majikes notified the committee that Gregory the Great Academy has been accepted into membership of the PIAA as of July 1, 2017.

ITEM 12 A motion was made by Jay Starnes, seconded by Chris Gegaris, to adjourn the meeting. All Ayes
